2009 Montgomery Award Recipient

The Walter S. Montgomery Award for Young Leadership was established in 2005 to recognize and celebrate those young members of our community who exhibit uncommon generosity, involvement and leadership in serving our human service organizations.

Troy Hanna, the 2009 recipient of The Walter S. Montgomery Award for Young Leadership, is a community leader who has made improving the quality of life for all of our citizens a priority. His service to Spartanburg’s community includes volunteer involvement with many organizations, including: Piedmont Chapter of the American Red Cross, Hatcher Garden and Woodland Preserve, Music Foundation of Spartanburg, Spartanburg County Museum of Art, Spartanburg County Historical Association and Leadership Spartanburg Alumni Association. Mr. Hanna served as Board Chair for SAFE Homes/Rape Crisis Coalition through a time of transformation that has enabled the organization to improve upon its critically needed services and programs. He has also served as a volunteer for United Way of the Piedmont’s Community Investment Process.

Mr. Hanna is employed by Carolina First as Area Executive. He is married to Cecilia Kelley Hanna of Spartanburg. Mr. and Mrs. Hanna have one daughter, Lillian Monroe Hanna.
