Businesses on Board

Welcome! Businesses on Board is an affinity group of the United Way of the Piedmont created in July 2011 for small business CEOs.  Through a combined effort of local businesses in the Community, dollars are raised and invested in special projects at area non-profits to meet needs that do not qualify through the traditional funding cycle for a United Way.  These dollars are intended to fund more direct, tangible needs for the agencies such as renovation projects, upgrading technology, installing equipment, purchasing educational supplies, repairs for transportation and much more.  For additional information or to participate SKIP DOWN TO the STRATEGY SECTION below & contact: Businesses on Board Director, Valida Foster, at 864-582-7556 ext 142 or email vfoster@uwpiedmont.org.

History

  • Created in July 2011
  • Affinity group of local small to medium sized businesses with:

-No current workplace campaign due to limitations of size and/or capacity to raise funds.

           - Identified need to meet or create philanthropic goals for their employee group or business.

-Interest in volunteerism and capacity building with other CEOS in the Community.

Goals

  1. RAISE DOLLARS for and volunteer at local non-profits through a combined effort.
  2. INVEST DOLLARS in special projects that do not qualify through a traditional investment process.
  3. RAISE AWARENESS for the Community while you work.
  4. GAIN ACCESS to training and networking sources.
  5. DEVELOP you in your roles as CEO's and philanthropists.

Strategy

Fundraising & Volunteering strategies begin January 1, 2012 and run through December 31, 2012.

  •                Goal #1: Raise $25,000 combined to invest in grants for area non-profits.
  •                Goal #2: Contribute 1,000 hours in volunteerism hours in support of the Community.
  •

Sample Strategies include:

-Special Fundraiser for United Way (hotdog sale, bake sale, art sale)
-Percentage of sales donated for a certain business day(s) (10% on Tuesdays, 5% on Sundays from 5pm-close)
-Percentage of sales donated for a particular service (20% of all highlights at a salon, 5% of all trips booked during the summer for all tours at a busing company)
-Flat fee donated for services rendered ($10 donated during March for each insurance quote, $20 donated during the 1st quarter for the sale of each home)

-Or, you may customize a unique strategy to fit the needs of your employee group and company!

BUT, We Cannot Do It Without Your Support......

We need your help! Please recommend area CEOs at local companies that would be a good fit for the Businesses of Board affinity group and initiative.  They should be one of the main decision makers for their organization and share a willingness to learn more about how their organization can make a positive impact on our community.  Dollars raised will support grants to fund special projects at area non-profits. Email Valida Foster at vfoster@uwpiedmont.org to become involved TODAY!

Thank you in advance for your support!
