$4,200,000!
United Way of the Piedmont set a record with its 2006-2007 campaign by raising more
than $4,200,000.
United Way of the Piedmont fundraising involves hundreds of volunteers and more
than 11,000 contributors throughout Spartanburg and Union Counties. (As of September
2007, United Way of the Piedmont will provide service to Cherokee County). Diligence
and good stewardship helps United Way of the Piedmont keep its costs to 10%, meaning
that 90 cents of every dollar donated goes back into the community in the form
of programs and services. (According to the Better Business Bureau, charities
are meeting the highest standards of efficiency if their costs are below 35%.)
Fundraising is a high priority for United Way, but not the highest. “We are all
about community impact, and fundraising is a strategy to that end,” states Brian
Gallagher, United Way of America CEO.
