Community Indicators is an assessment, visioning and planning process designed
to highlight our community’s most pressing concerns and develop strategies that
improve community conditions over time.
Phase 1…
The Spartanburg County Foundation and United Way of the Piedmont released Community
Indicators VI: Strategic Spartanburg in February, 2005. This publication represents
the effort of a community dedicated to identifying and examining the many human
services and social issues affecting the citizens of Spartanburg County. Public,
private, and nonprofit resources were brought together to establish 10 community-wide
goals to benchmark Spartanburg's progress and collaborate and focus resources
against community needs. Download the Community Indicators VI: Strategic Spartanburg document.
Phase 2…
Soon after the release of Community Indicators VI: Strategic Spartanburg, 10
focus groups composed of over 300 community volunteers formed to develop strategies
that address issues identified in the publication. Their charge was to outlines
strategic action that would produce measurable impact within five years and significant
impact within 10 years for each of the 10 goals identified in Community Indicators
VI. Community Improvement Plan (2006-2010) was released in January 2006. Download the Community Improvement Plan.
Phase 3…
After months of time invested in the development of Community Improvement Plan
(2006-2010), volunteers and organizations involved in the process asked each other
the question “now what?” The Strategic Spartanburg initiative is the answer!
Spartanburg County joined United Way and the Spartanburg County Foundation as
a sponsoring organization for this project and provided the funding for a part-time
project manager and a sophisticated website. A group of over 30 community leaders
formed the Progress Enhancement Team (PET) to monitor the growth of Community
Indicators related initiatives and provide guidance as needed. To learn more
