Building on the longtime partnership between the City of Spartanburg and the United Way of the Piedmont, Mayor Junie White and UWP CEO Chris Steed have announced a new initiative to recruit 500 new mentors, tutors and readers for local school-aged children in 2013. The ambitious initiative is part of an effort to extend the City’s annual MLK Day of Service into a yearlong focus on enhancing the education and lives of young people.
