United Way of the
Piedmont
established the Walter S. Montgomery, Sr. Award for Young Leadership in 2005
to recognize and celebrate the contributions our next generation is making to
our community.
The award honors the late Walter S. Montgomery, Sr. Mr. Montgomery’s footprints
are evident as a benefactor and activist throughout our community not only for
his interest in healthcare and the arts, but also for his leadership in developing
local philanthropic institutions, such as the United Way
of the
Piedmont
. He was passionate about
Spartanburg
-- a planter of its trees, an author of its history, and a photographer of her
beauty.
Generosity, Involvement, Leadership
The recipient of this award is a member of our community, 40 years of age and
under, who exhibits uncommon generosity, involvement and leadership in serving
our human service organizations and initiatives. The award is intended to applaud
the individual who is making a difference. It is not merely a measure of how many
boards or committees one joins, but the energy, passion and enthusiasm he or she
gives to those endeavors.
Submissions for this year's award must be received by September 17, 2007. To
