Engagement Positions

Public Policy Intern 

The Public Policy and Advocacy Intern will be responsible for supporting the United Way of the Piedmont Engagement team in advancing United Way’s policy priorities in the areas of health, education, financial stability and community strengthening. They will collaborate with the Engagement team to support their federal, state, and local advocacy efforts and support the team in communicating policy priorities to congressional & legislative members. The intern will have opportunities to participate in a range of projects including but not limited to leading a grassroots civic engagement campaign, leading digital advocacy trainings, and developing compelling materials to share impact.

This internship opportunity is open to current students or recent graduates of a college program. The intern is expected to demonstrate a keen interest in nonprofits, as well as interest in a field of study related to the position. This internship is 100% remote.

AmeriCorps VISTA in the Piedmont (VIP) Team Member

United Way of the Piedmont in Upstate South Carolina is looking for 11 high-impact, results-driven candidates to lead the way in our collective impact approach to alleviating poverty. Join our dynamic team to be part of grassroots change in Spartanburg, Cherokee, & Union Counties increasing access to behavioral healthcare and increasing financial stability.

AmeriCorps VISTA members serve full-time in an area nonprofit agency and spend 10% of their time working collaboratively to address community-wide issues.

This is a great opportunity for recent graduates, retirees, career-changers, or anyone who is interested in starting a career in the nonprofit field.

AmeriCorps Financial Stability Navigator

Through United Way of the Piedmont’s AmeriCorps Program, AmeriCorps members serve part-time as Financial Stability Navigators at local organizations in the Piedmont region of South Carolina to address critical community needs related to economic opportunity. Members directly serve low-income households by providing care coordination and financial literacy services, preparing and filing income tax returns for free, and assisting households to apply for state and federal benefits.
