MLK Day of Service

United is the way to serve

For MLK Day of Service, United Way of the Piedmont mobilizes hundreds of volunteers to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in our local community. It’s a day to connect with your neighbors, uplift local nonprofits, and honor the legacy of Dr. King through meaningful action.

United Way is proud to bring the nationwide Day of Service to our region on Monday, January 19, 2026. We’ve planned an unforgettable day filled with meaningful opportunities. Explore over a dozen volunteer projects across our community below.

Going back to the first gathering around the flagpole at Spartanburg City Hall over three decades ago, Spartanburg’s citizens have long recognized that Dr. King’s mission lives on in the people of our community and their commitment to a more just and equitable world. Today, the importance of that mission is as evident as it has ever been. In the week leading up the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, the City of Spartanburg invites community members to participate in Unity Week, a week of events and opportunities that honor Dr. King's legacy.
